Drivers in selected parts of Prague 5 and 6 are no longer able to park without a permit or temporary parking ticket. Free public parking in those popular areas for commuters from suburbs or towns further afield and visitors to Prague is not possible anymore. Although zones are regulated, free parking is still possible during weekends and outside of appointed, marked times on the parking signs. For example, Mon-Fri from 8 am to 8 pm, and a parking fee is not charged.
Parking fees can be paid by coin-/card-operated machines or by virtual mobile application.
Extended Pay Parking Zones aims to bring better protection to residents, as agreed between the City and its Districts. People coming into the city with a car are encouraged to use Park and Ride lots, or find parking in districts outside the centre and then use public transportation.
For Prague 5, mostly the area near the centre, including Smíchov, is covered. At the same time, the Prague 5 district introduced a speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour on some streets to improve safety.
Areas in Prague 6 included in paid parking include Bubeneč, Hradcany, Dejvice, Vokovice, Veleslavín, Břevnov and Střešovice.
Timeline
From 24 August 2016, the operation of the paid parking zones in the municipal districts of Praha 5 and Praha 6 started.
On 1 September 2016, the paid parking zone in the municipal district of Praha 3 will be extended.
On 1 October 2016, the operation of the paid parking zone in the municipal district of Praha 8 will be started.
Resident Parking (Blue Zone)
A blue zone marked with a blue stripe on Prague roads (both signing and road marking) is intended for so-called resident parking. Only people with a valid parking permit may park in a blue zone with no limitation. A permit can be obtained by the operator/user of a vehicle based on permanent residence in the area concerned, the ownership of property in the area concerned or the ownership of premises in the area concerned. The other drivers may park in a blue zone for not more than three hours and only on making payment via the Virtual Parking Meter (web application).
This information applies to the newly-established paid parking zones only. For the existing paid parking zones, there are no changes. For detailed information about these zones, please see the website of the municipal districts (Praha 1, Praha 2, Praha 3 and Praha 7).
Business Hours
The basic business hours of a parking zone are from 8:00 am to 20:00 pm, but they may vary depending on the requirements of individual localities and municipal districts. Parking in a blue zone outside the basic business hours is not regulated.
Parking Permit
Parking in a blue zone is possible on the basis of a parking permit, which may be obtained at issuing offices of the related municipal districts. The blue zones, newly established after 2015, will be created in the municipal districts of Praha 3, Praha 5, Praha 6 and Praha 8 and later also in the other parts of Prague, will issue electronic parking permits.
Permits will be checked on the basis of the vehicle registration number using a monitoring system. This will result in the termination of the duty to have a parking permit behind the windscreen of the vehicle.
There is a novelty in some larger municipal districts (currently Praha 5 and Praha 8). These are so-called areas, which are smaller parts of districts and where a parking permit will be cheaper than a permit valid for the entire municipal district.
Parking Meters
You will not meet parking meters in the blue zones in the area of the capital city of Prague (either in the existing zones or the newly-established ones).
Virtual Parking Meter
The Virtual Parking Meter (VPM) application will enable drivers to make payment for short-term visitor parking, for up to three hours, without using a parking meter. In the newly established blue zones, the VPM will be the only payment option for drivers who need to stop in a blue zone for a short visit, business meeting or unloading or loading. In the existing blue zones (Praha 1, Praha 2, Praha 3 and Praha 7), you can only park for a short time using scratchcards.
Parking Fees
The fees for resident and subscriber parking are set separately for every locality, considering the price zone and the number of parking permits issued for a user. For more detailed information about the prices, please see the price list on the information subpages of individual municipal districts.
Mixed Parking (Violet Zone)
A violet zone marked with a violet stripe on signing and completed with white road marking is intended for so-called mixed parking. Only people with a valid parking permit may park in a violet zone with no limitation. A permit can be obtained by the operator/user of a vehicle on the basis of permanent residence in the area concerned, the ownership of property in the area concerned, or the ownership of premises in the area concerned. Other drivers may park in a violet zone for not more than 24 hours and only on making payment using a parking meter or via the Virtual Parking Meter (web application).

Parking in a violet zone will be possible on the basis of a parking permit for a blue zone or on making payment using a parking meter or via the Virtual Parking Meter (web application).

Instructions for use for a parking meter.

The Virtual Parking Meter (VPM) application will enable drivers to make payments for short-term parking, for up to 24 hours, without using a parking meter.

P+R Parking (Green Zone for Alternative Parking of Visitors to Prague)
In addition to a resident parking blue zone, a mixed parking violet zone and a visitor parking orange zone, there are also other alternatives in Prague which enable easy parking. In addition to commercial parking areas, they particularly include the P+R car parks for parking on the outskirts of the city with good links to municipal public transport. They will be used especially by drivers who are not from Prague and drive to the metropolis using their own car, but who will travel using Prague Integrated Transport in Prague.
It must be emphasized that a “green” paid parking zone within the meaning of marked parking places is not included in the new concept. However, other alternative options must also be taken into account within the Prague Integrated Transport and traffic management in place in the metropolis. For these purposes, the parking regime marked in green has been created.
Special P+R Car Parks
Special Park + Ride car parks, situated on Prague’s outskirts in close proximity to public transport. They are designed to be used in conjunction with public transport. Currently, P+R car parks are situated near the Prague Metro in Skalka I, Skalka II, Zličín I, Zličín II, Nové Butovice, Opatov, Chodov, Ládví, Letňany, Rajská zahrada, Černý Most I, Černý Most II, Nádraží Holešovice and Depo Hostivař. Other P+R car parks – Radotín and Běchovice – are linked to train connections. For more information about the possibilities of using car parks, please see the website of TSK Praha.
Short-Term Stop K+R Places
Short-term stop K+R (Kiss + Ride) places are situated near some Prague Metro and railway stations. They are used to get out and in by people transported by a car driver to or from a municipal public transport station. But they are not used for long-term parking.
Commercial Guarded Parking Areas and Garage Parking Places
Commercial guarded parking areas and garage parking places are usually situated in the vicinity of major roads, near municipal public transport stations, or in connection with Prague shopping centres and localities where a high utilization rate is expected (for example, near the Václav Havel Airport Prague). Parking there is possible for a fee and according to specific rules set by the related commercial entity. Some commercial car parks offer the possibility of booking a place in advance. For information about commercial car parks, please see the Prague commercial car park map.
